Strawberry Park Hot Springs
Steamboat Springs
Located just outside Steamboat Springs, Strawberry Park Hot Springs blends the natural beauty of the outdoors with expert stone masonry craftsmanship for an unforgettable soaking experience in the Colorado mountains.
Established in 1981, Strawberry Park is nestled alongside the aptly named Hot Springs Creek. Known for its charming rustic setting, four hot springs pools are delineated by hand-built stone walls that perfectly suit a backdrop of aspen trees.
In addition to soaking, visitors can also enjoy a variety of massage services including Watsu therapy. Unique accommodations include cabins, camping, covered wagons and even a refurbished train caboose!
The best of both worlds, Strawberry Park is family-friendly by day and becomes adult-only and clothing-optional after dark.
Parking is extremely limited, and in winter, two-wheel drive vehicles are not permitted on County Road 36. A shuttle service offers convenient transportation from Steamboat Springs.

A Quick History of Strawberry Park Hot Springs
Homesteading Hot Spot
In the early days, the current location of Strawberry Park Hot Springs was once the homestead site of Samuel Tankersley, which he sold to H.W. Gossard in the 1930s. Gossard had hopes of transforming the property into a health spa community, but his plans never materialized and the rural springs were sold to the Steamboat Springs Company in 1935.
A Hippie Haven
Their remote location seven miles north of Steamboat Springs made the hot springs hard to manage. By the time the 1970s rolled around, they were a haven for partying hippies. At one time, there were upwards of 300 people camping around the hot springs.
To the Rescue
Don Johnson, a Chicago-native drawn to the Colorado lifestyle, purchased the property from the city in 1981, rescuing it from possible demolition. He has spent the ensuing years transforming it into a hot springs showpiece.
In 2013, Strawberry Park Hot Springs was placed on the Routt County Register of Historic Places.
