The newest attraction for water-based fun is the Sopris Splash Zone. A state-of-the-art aquatic adventure area, it features Shoshone Chutes, a thrilling river ride that simulates a Colorado-style whitewater rafting experience! For youngsters, there’s a splash pad fountain, zero-entry wading pools, mini kiddie slides and a gentle waterfall.

The History of Glenwood Hot Springs Resort
First Visitors
Native Americans were the first to bathe in the mineral-rich hot spring water. Called “Yampah” by the Ute tribe, the word translates to “Big Medicine,” named for the water’s therapeutic qualities. The Yampah Spring feeds the pools, producing 3.5 million gallons of water each day.
Hot Springs Vision
In 1888, engineer, businessman and town father Walter Devereux completed the construction of the red sandstone bathhouse and opened the world’s largest hot springs pool in Glenwood Springs. It became known as “Spa of the Rockies.” The resort’s modern-day award-winning spa retains the same name.
Mid-Century Transitions
From 1943 to 1946, the U.S. government commissioned the resort as a U.S. Naval Convalescent Hospital for returning WWII veterans. In 1950, a group of local businessmen purchased the property to prevent the pool from closing to the public. The families of that original group still retain complete control of the resort.
Expanding Options
Since then, many resort amenities have been added: Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge, Spa of the Rockies and the new Sopris Splash Zone.
