Ouray
Stay at the enchanting Box Canyon Lodge and enjoy the privilege of soaking in four redwood soaking tubs terraced up the side of a mountain behind the lodge. Situated to take advantage of the spectacular San Juan Mountain views, the hot spring pools are accessible by a flight of stairs.
The tubs are repurposed vintage barrels fitted with submerged wooden benches and bubble jets. On the warmer end, they range in temperature from 103° to 108°F (39°- 42°C) and are ideal for teasing away tension after a day of outdoor fun. The water is 100 percent pure with no chemicals added, and lodge guests have exclusive access to the pools, which are open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
In addition to soaking, Box Canyon Lodge offers beautifully appointed guest rooms, as well as a honeymoon suite and an apartment option.

A Quick History of Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs
A Place of Many Names
In 1925, Richard and Bessie Cogar owned the property on which Box Canyon Lodge is located. The couple opened the Cogar Sanitarium to offer hot springs health treatments. The waters provided relief for a variety of ailments, especially to those suffering from arthritis. The Cogars sold their property to Richard Kent in 1929, who then renamed it the Sweet Skin Sanitarium. By the mid-1940s, it operated as Crystal Court Springs.
Birdwatcher’s Paradise
In 2007, Rich and Karen Avery purchased the lodge and springs and added the four hot spring soaking tubs. The couple also continued the tradition of setting out bird feeders all around the property, which attract a wide variety of winged creatures including chickadees, finches, hummingbirds and many others.
